I think so, even at the small level of being able to engage the public and make them more aware of what we do and answer their questions. Its even more important today that scientists are able to explain what we do to everyone to see why its worth funding science and explain how we are contributing.

Also through the teaching of my students- undergraduate and postgraduate, who will then go on to do the same- amplifying the positive effects as they themselves use the same skills i taught them.

My hope is that one day i will make a scientific breakthrough that will have a real profound effect on patients- for the better of everyone.

I would hope so – but maybe more from the work I did in organising infrastructure, such as FOCAS in DIT.

I’d like to think that my work makes changes to society for sure. The work we’ve done with the FutureNeuro project and the Lighthouse Epilpesy project is helping to chance how our health system works, making patients more active in their own medical journey and helping them to engage better with their doctors and medication etc.
