Humans have the largest cerebral cortex of all mammals, relative to the size of their brains (it takes up about 80% of our brain’s mass). This area houses the cerebral hemispheres, which are responsible for things like memory, communication, and thinking and this may be why we’re so intelligent!

I saw a programme recently which made the point that it is not only the size of the brain that is important, but also how much the cells are connected. The more complex the connection network, the more complex the intellect!

different parts of different animals brains can be more developed to suit their needs- a dog needs to be able to smell much more than we do!
