Yes, I’ve been given awards for my work, which is a really nice feeling! Usually, when presenting our work at conferences, the best presentations get an award, or when you need to travel somewhere to go to a conference or visit another lab, you can apply to win money to help fund that travel. I’ve been lucky to have been awarded prizes for both presentations and travel.

Yes – I have received awards for “commercialisation” and “research excellence” in DIT. Awards are nice, but they are very often not from you fellow scientists. When you publish research, others refer to it, and this is also considered an honour. Therefore how many “citations” a scientist has is often a measure of esteem,

      Yep!
I have been awarded an IAESTE scholarship to spend a summer doing research in Finland which gave me invaluable experience abroad.
A couple of years ago I won the Institute of Engineering & Technology ‘Present Around The World’ competition for showcasing my presentation skills.
The biggest award I have ever been given came this year when I was awarded a Fulbright scholarship. With the Fulbright Scholarship, I will get to spend 6 months working in a hospital in Boston, at one of the best research centres in the world!
